Family Drawing Night
Last night, we all sat down together and drew. Over the weekend we bought a game - it's a plastic whale with game pieces under the tongue that you have to fetch out with a fishing rod, without touching the tongue... or it squirts you in the face!
My take on Splashy:
Michael's fiery twist:
Quinn's interesting drawing (YES, it is what it looks like - boy has a toilet humour fascination lately which I have no idea how to get rid of):
And the stand-out picture of the night goes to... DANIELLE! She looked up a picture of Tiny Titans (think Muppet Babies, but superheroes), and proceeded to perfectly draw them. Not traced, we were watching:
Of course, we were inspired after seeing all of the wicked awesome artwork at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. I think that's what it was called. I don't want to look it up.

Watercolour Journal #7 - Orson Welles(ish)
Sigh. I hope that the more of these I do, they will start to actually look like the person in question.
(in this one you can also see the high-tech way that I hold down the edge of the page - spoon handles!)
Watercolour Journal #6 - Peter Lorre
This guy is a little different. He has wonky eyes ALREADY, so they're SUPPOSED to be crooked! Genius. I just may only paint eccentrics from now on, because when they turn out not-quite-right, you can't tell the difference.
Also, I'm no longer putting these on A Bunch of Pansies. Maybe when I get better. This blog is supposed to be all about trash!
Watercolour Journal #5 - Ginger Rogers(esque)
Notes for the future: The eyes turned out a little freaky and overly large. The face is too puffy. The lips are too outlined. And necks are my downfall! I also didn't get her leonine nose bridge down.
Watercolour Journal #4 - Claudette Colbert
This is turning into a "Face a Day" thing or something. I don't think the word "journal" is quite right...
Not that I ever keep things like that up.
The nose pooled with water a little - I tried to save it, but it ended up looking a little odd. I like how the bangs turned out, but I wish that the sides of her hair turned out the same way... I think it's because of the way I used the pencils differently in those areas. The headband was actually a braid in the photo.
Things I am learning: it's difficult to get a colour to stay uniform in large areas! Hence the weird hat on WC and blobby turtleneck on Claudette. Perhaps I need a bigger brush.

Watercolour Journal #3 - WC Fields
Water Colour Journal #3 - W.C. Fields
"Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water."
Watercolour Journal #2 - Being Erica
Being Erica is something I've been watching on Netflix. It's light and uplifting fun, and I can relate to her particular blend of crazy.
PS - It doesn't really look like the actress, but hey, artistic license.
I had to pause the show (yet again) to (yet again) wipe my son's ass (pardon the bluntness, but that is what I truthfully was doing), and the screen capture was Erica's face caught in a beautiful light. When inspiration strikes, you gotta drop what you're doing, even if inspiration comes in the form of a CBC show that you watch as a filler until bedtime (not my bedtime).
Don't worry, I won't post all of these, but I needed a palate cleanser after posting that last one. It was early morning, I hadn't touched watercolours in 2 and a bit years (I have the birth of my friend's son to use as a benchmark), my kids were curiously breathing down my neck, and I seriously misjudged the blackness of that tree.
